Veneto Towns and other areas
We visited Marostica on Tuesday 6th July. It is a medieval town with impressive town walls and fort. We could not find an entrance to the fort. There was a market on when we arrived mid-morning.
Moving on, we stopped briefly at Bassarno di Grappa to view the bridge rebuilt by Alpine soldiers in 1966.
We moved on to Asolo which is a fairly typical hilltop town with central piazza and church. We had lunch in a bar/cafe in the central piazza.
Later we visited the Villa Barbaro (see villas page)
We visited Soave, near Verona, on Thursday 8th July. Soave is a walled town of ancient origins with a castle towards the top of the hill that the town is built around. We have not yet found the castle open for visitors, despite having visited twice - 2 years ago and this year.
