Moneglia
People have been living in the Liguria area for thousands of years. The Romans put a road through and Moneglia was mentioned in a medieval copy of a 3rd/4th century Roman document as one of the few maritime suburbs along the Via Aurelia between Genoa and Luni. There do not seem to be any Roman remains to be seen.
The Torre di Villafranca was probably built by the Genoese in 1176. It was damaged by bombing in WW2 and has since been partially restored as a park with some modern meeting rooms.
Moneglia is built in a bay between 2 headlands. The coast road runs through single track tunnels at each headland and traffic signals control the traffic flow.
The town beach can be seen with the coast road between it and the town to the right. There are 2 other beaches - the one pictured to the east and another to the west separated by a small headland from the town. There is room for free beaches and serviced beaches.
