Marble Hill House                                     Home     London

Marble Hill House is an English Heritage property. It was built by Henrietta Howard, mistress of King George II when he was Prince of Wales. It was built in the Palladian style and it became renowned as a salon of literary wits, gathered around their learned hostess. It is not a large villa being compact and centred around the Great Room, where Mrs Howard held court. The house was set in 66 acres of riverside parkland with the usual appurtenances, such as an ice house (still visible) and various gardens.
