Day 8 - Friday 4th April 2014

We were up amd packed early and left the cottage before 9.30am. We intended to stop at Knightshayes, a National Trust Property north of Exeter and near to Tiverton. The weather and traffic were reasonable and we were able to reach Knighthayes before 10.30. After coffee in the Stables Cafe, we walked through the garden, stopping to tour the Walled Garden before continuing towards the house. Photography was not allowed in the house.

The house is a Victorian Gothic Revival country house designed by William Burges. It was built between 1869 and 1874, but Burges was replaced before the house was complete and the interiors completed in a less costly and flamboyant manner by John Dibblee Crace. Since being acquired by the National Trust in 1973 some restoration has been done and one bedroom returned to the style of William Burges.
