Cheverny

Cheverny originated from earlier times, but the chateau seen today was built between 1624 and 1640 by Earl Henri Hurault and his wife Marguerite Gaillard de la Moriniere. Neither saw the chateau completed and their daughter Elisabeth, Marquise de Montglas, completed the interior decoration. The architect used a soft white stone from the Cher valley; it is stronger than the tufa from the Loire valley and lightens in colour and hardens over time.

The Hunt at Cheverny is quite famous and the hounds are fed each day at about 5.00pm. 1. Waiting, 2. ready to eat and waiting for handler to tell them to eat, 3. eating. It is quite a scrimmage and frequently the dogs clamber over each other to get to the feed on the floor.
