Chateau d'Azay-le-Rideau
The chateau at Azay-le-Rideau is tucked away in the town down a side street. If there is a grand entrance then the tourists do not use it. There is a gate that leads straight off the town streets.
The Chateau d'Azay-le-Rideau was built on the banks of the River Indre and there are some fine views of it reflected in the still waters. It was one of the first Renaissance castles built in France so it is historically and architecturally interesting. It was built between 1518 and 1527 by Martin Berthelot, Master of the Chamber of Accounts. It has been altered and restored at various times.
