The Loire Chateaux
We crossed into France by overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen on Sunday 18th May arriving in France at 6.15 am on Monday morning. We drove down to the Loire valley at Saumur stopping only for petrol and meals. Lunch was a picnic by the side of the Loire not far from Saumur. We had some time available during the afternoon so stopped at Fontevraud to visit the ancient Abbey.
