Fontevraud Abbey

We visited the abbey on our way to Pouant fr4om the ferry on Monday 19th May.

This magnificent abbey was founded in the early 12th Century by Robert d'Arbrissel and was protected by the Counts of Anjou. The English Plantagenet kings and Queens were involved and Henry II was buried here as were 15 other princes and princesses. It was continuously enlarged and rebuilt over the centuries and was closed down at the Revolution.
