Holiday in Cornwall 11th May - 18th May 2013
Home Cornwall Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7
Day 8 Saturday 18th May
The day started sunny and dry and continued dry most of the day, although the sun came and went. The roads were fairly clear and quick flowing until we approached Exeter when we got into a long, slow moving queue to Junction 30. The cause was the crowds going to the Devon County Show at Clyst St Mary, just off the junction.
We were intending to leave the M5 at Junction 29 to find a village called Broadclyst. We did find the village eventually, despite new roads around Exeter Airport and poor road signs. A family story has it that one of Edwin's ancestors was left a property in Broadclyst by a rich lady for whom she had worked for some years. I have found documentary evidence that my great great aunt did live and die in Broadclyst and we found what I think is the property. The whole village was part of the estate of Killerton House which was owned by the Acland family and given to the National Trust in 1944. So we have to go back and visit Killerton House at some point.
The Bungalow, Broadclyst. (I think this property was left to my Gt Gt Aunt)
